Canzone: Children of the Grave

Canzone che mostra un forte messaggio di azione contro la guerra, reso ancora più emblematico dalle caratteristiche “cupe” della musica di Iommi. Ozzy Osbourne canta con un tono ridondante, accompagnato dal groove di Tony Iommi e Geezer Butler. E Bill Ward che picchia sulla batteria, senza in alcun modo alterare l’andamento della canzone. Insomma, un capolavoro. Proprio per questo motivo, il messaggio passa all’ascoltare ancora più poderoso. La canzone è stata scritta nel periodo della guerra del Vietnam e del terrore dell’atomica, ma è interessante come quel clima sia attuale. C’è ancora il terrore del nucleare, con la Russia e gli Stati Uniti che detengono il 90% delle armi nucleari al mondo. E ci sono paesi che si adoperano di armi nucleari, come la Cina, l’India, la Corea del Nord e Israele. Secondo alcuni esperti, ad oggi abbiamo scampato la guerra nucleare non perché siamo stati bravi, bensì perché siamo stati fortunati. L’ultimo paragrafo è un invito ai giovani di oggi a reagire per un mondo migliore. Il messaggio vale parecchio non solo nei confronti della guerra in senso letterale, ma per ogni tipo di conflitto che stiamo vivendo, come ad esempio quello per le risorse dovute al surriscaldamento globale. I Black Sabbath non fanno il loro invito con gli arcobaleni e i fiori hippie, ma con un tono potente che schiaffa duramente la realtà in faccia alla gente. A partire dal titolo, ovvero “bambini della tomba”.
